The combined company was named Brand New Stardom. E, Bumkey, Kanto, Swings and Phantom. The song samples the American soul hit song of the same name by The Stylistics. Bumkey denied the allegations and was found not guilty in a trial the following year. The first act to sign under it was the duo SBGB.

Formed in , the band consists of Jesse Lacey vocals, guitar , Vincent Accardi guitar, vocals , Garrett Tierney bass guitar, vocals , and Brian Lane drums, percussion ; they were joined by Benjamin Homola percussion for their live performances. From to , the band also included Derrick Sherman guitar, backing vocals, keyboards. The band is recognized as one of the most influential within the s emo scene, celebrated for making artistic statements with their music. They eventually split off from the other members of the group, and in formed Brand New in Merrick, New York. Their second album, Deja Entendu, was released in and marked a stylistic change for the band, one that garnered an extremely positive critical reception.
